I just got my harry_holidays assignment and I am utterly beside myself with glee. I'm writing for someone whose work I admire greatly (which sort of also freaks me out because OMGFANGIRLSQUEE + I AM SO NOT WORTHY!) and I got smacked in the face by about fifty long-toothed bunnies in the first five seconds of reading the prompt.
OMG, this is either going to be the best fic I've ever written or it's going to completely bomb.
Oh, hell, there go my nerves. *chews fingernails*

I just realized I have a major flaw in my writing.
bbtp_challenge happens in about ten days and I had to contribute. Every idea I come up with becomes waaaaaay longer than just a short one-shot. I keep going into epic story-lines. So I decided to dig up an old work I planned during the lj fiasco last year. I opened it up and shook my head in dismay.
I realized then that all of my fics share a common flaw. I'm writing scenes like a script writer. Because I like to 'hide' who the character is when I first write my intro scenes, I make major mistakes in grammar. This is probably why ![[info]](http://www.insanejournal.com/img/userinfo.gif) leianora, my dear frustrated emergency beta who went through pages of my fic for phoenix_flies, asked me point out if English was my first language. *
My main problem in writing stories is that I visualize them. I have a photographic mind, mind not memory. ;d I tend to imagine things first in my mind like a photographer imaging a picture, or more correctly, a director imaging a scene for a movie or show. I walk myself through the scene as if I am watching a movie. I fast forward to points in the plot and rewind as well as I slow it down in my mind to write out the specifics of the plot and dialogue.
It is because of this that it becomes horribly difficult for me to write what I am seeing from the different perspective of it happening to the character. How can I convey what I am seeing as a third person imagining the scenes and as the character in which the scene is happening to?
I'm not sure how to fix this. Should I, when I'm trying to do this, write in first person? I know I shouldn't switch back and forth because first and third person, because I already got into trouble with that with my vday fic Chocolate & Raspberries, in which the mod sent it back to me and I had an emergency beta totally rail my ass and I practically re-wrote the entire ficy when I was done with it.
This problem is also why I plan to completely re-write my absolutely horrible, Descent into the Debauchery of Darkness two-shot ficy... It's also why I've been vastly reluctant to join any fests and even write...
*sighs*
Anyone got any advice?

There is No way in hell that I'm going to accept this.
For god's sake, McCain has been in Washington for nearly 30 years, he's not part of the solution, he's part of the problem. He's pro-choice, he the right wing neo-con religious right whipping boy. He will not overturn the new classification that the Department of Health has given birth-control, abortion. Which now makes it legal for the religious right pharmacists to deny women not only the day after pill but also normal everyday birth control. For god's sake this man supported the Patriot ACT!!!
No, just no. I refuse to accept this. If I have to, in November, I will volunteer my services to the local Democratic party to get votes. I will not accept John McCain as president.
He's worse than Bush and on top of that with Russia being gun happy and land grabby, he will cause another war.

One of the downloaded versions worked, so I watched L: Change the World. I didn't like it. That is, I didn't dislike it either. Just neither here nor there.
IMO, nobody needed this 'humanisation of L' because he's quite lovely as he is. On the other hand, I don't object to it either. In the circumstances of L's life when the film takes place, I can believe he'd act as he acts in it.
I seriously disliked that the premise has to do with a virus. Yucky! But there were two things I liked. Firstly, it's just a good excuse for seeing L in all his glory for two more hours, half-moon-shaped back and all. And secondly, the very last, closing picture. Cliché but nice and poetic anyway. |

Cassidy and Sasha accidentally met when Bro was walking out of the guest bedroom. There was hissing and spitting on both ends. Now I realize just what a piece of work it's going to be to bring Cassidy into the house. He needs to get used to the house itself. He needs to get used to Padfoot. He needs to get along with Sasha. And Noel needs to put her big-girl pants on.
For those of you who are fellow cat ladies, how do you integrate a cat when there's this much feline enmity?

| New Cat on the Block Part II |

 Cassidy update:
All four of us are having a devil of a time remembering to call Cassidy a he instead of a she.
He's finally come up from under the bed most of the time, although he still likes being under the night table and the rocking chair when he's resting. Bro's friend came over to help with the socializing and took Cassidy out from under the bed. There was some hissing, but then Cassidy wasn't so bad, even let me pet him and everything. And once everyone else was out of the room, Cassidy let me scratch him a bit before reverting back to form - hissing and growling. I stayed for a while anyway. The point is to get him used to me as a nonthreat.
I'd keep going in now and then through the rest of the day, and Cassidy would hiss and growl and so on, but he seemed to finally not want to be under the bed. And he ate some food. Then, near the evening, he came out for some scritches and rubbings. There was rolling over and baring of the fluffy tummy and purring for about a minute and a half. Then back to the growling and hissing. It's more like he's nervous than scared or mad, and I eventually realized that there's no real bite to it. He's mostly posturing. I could pick him up a bit without him clawing or biting. I didn't do it for long. Again, he's pushing boundaries, I'm pushing boundaries.
Before going off on a dog walk, I went in, and there were more lovings required. He was walking about and even interested in going outside the guest bedroom. There was hissing when he was finished with his attention, but it wasn't as heart-felt as before. And just a few hours ago, he was all love and no hissing. I left him as he was drinking his water.
There will probably be some hissing and growling tomorrow, but I'm very encouraged. :) And he definitely reminds me of grumpy Remus, back in the days when we did have male cats in the house.

My next vid is about O-Ren Ishii from the movie Kill Bill and I am enjoying the pain in the ass of grabbing the scenes I need to make this. *g* This is me, falling in love with the movie all over again. *swoons* Once I have all the footage I need, I am going to spend quite a bit of time putting them together to the song I chose. I think it works.
I've been drabbling for Supernatural on IJ lately and if I am going to continue this, I am going to need more Supernatural icons beyond the one I have from the gag reel. I mean, heck, my first drabble's about Ruby and the second one is Dean/Gordon. I also have another drabble of Ellen/Jo for BBTP and only then do I have a Sam/Dean fic. So yes, more icons.
Now it's time to kick the fiance into gear and have him make us dinner. |

Thank god we sold the Corvettes.
It's going to take nearly $800 to fix my car, with all the shorts, the horn short and the flashers/hazard light short, the unlocking itself short, the security short where it won't let you start the car because it thinks you are stealing it.
There is still the keyless entry thing. Seems we need to get a new transmitter for it.
Mom's going to have to fight for the recall thing on the hazard/flashers lights. The guys at the garage refused to do anything about it. It's going to get fixed, but at the moment we have to pay for it and that's nearly $200. |

My computer began panting, so I counted how many tabs there were open and found that they were about 40. And then there were other applications. So I made an inventory of what tabs they were.
Of course, most of those are fiction. In six damn fandoms.
So, 1 POTC fic, 1 Petshop of Horrors fic, 2 Jeeves and Wooster fics, 2 Eroica fics, 2 Death Note fics, 10 HP fics. Also, 2 manga index-like places, 2 Eroica archives, 2 Eroica and DN rec pages, 5 HP mod-n-index-like places, 6 journalling [and related] places, and a bit less than a dozen health-related pages. Not counting those that I open and close to look at things, a dozen at any given time. About 15 of them stay open permanently since they are the places I go to 50 times every day, so I consider it easier to just keep them open.
When put like this, I think it's maybe inefficient to keep all those fics open for days (often weeks). Maybe it would be better to simply bookmark them. But then I recall that I never remember to look in my 'to read' bookmarks. But if I see an open tab, I'll get to it eventually. Hmm. But anyway, fics in six fandoms. That's too much a magpie even for me, especially if I think about all the manga lined up for reading.
Also, I think I should stop waiting until any of the fandoms gather enough recs in my Semagic draft for a post and start spitting them out. |
